After departure from  New York the course was set west to a waypoint south of New Foundland. From that point, outside the iceberg limit, Celeste started great circle navigation with the course set on Bishop Rock, England.

The sailing was mainly in cloudy weather with fog and poor visibility. Celeste catched up some good westerly winds and sailed in speed between 15-20 knots. The maximum speed for this route was 20,9 knots. The morning May 30, 2006, Celeste moored in Portsmouth, Ghunwharf Quays, Volvo Ocean Race Village.
